Alumni Story: Stanislav strengthens his Data Engineer/Analyst profile with Data Science
PROMO 2026
Stanislav Grinchenko
Read the inspiring story of Stanislav, alumnus of the Data Science & AI training !
What was your background before joining the Data Science & AI course?
My name is Stanislav Grinchenko, I'm a Data Engineer and Data Analyst. I've spent the last 17 years working for a single company, which was evolving from startups to large enterprises.
which had recently been bought by a major corporation. So I went through all the stages from development engineer to support engineer.
For the last 8 years, I've been working as a Data Analyst and Data Engineer. As I was working in a single company with limited tools,
And what's more, I left the company at the end of 2025, so I wanted to refresh my knowledge a bit and above all explore new areas for me, Data Science, an area in which I had no experience at all.
How would you describe your experience at the School of Data?
It's very intense. The first few weeks were easy because we were dealing with things I already knew. So I was relaxed and happy. It was SQL, PowerBI, these were technologies that I worked with every day. And then, poof, we started Python and the Data Science models, these are new things and my head very quickly became overloaded. But for 10 weeks, it's a good load, I think.
What tools did you learn on the course?
When it comes to Machine Learning and Deep Learning models, I learnt almost from scratch. I did a few experiments on my own,
but this allowed me to go through the whole stack of Data Science tools. I have to admit that it went pretty quickly. We had new subjects every day. And I'm aware that if I want to become more experienced in this area, I'll need to go through it all again on my own in my spare time. And for me, personally, the few days we spent on DBT were interesting. Because even though I had experience of Data Engineering, I had DBT as a tool that I'd never used. And it's something that's very much in demand today. It's very valuable. Dataiku too, we had two days, but it was very interesting and I think very useful for me personally.
Can you tell us about a project you completed during the course?
At the moment, me and my team of three other colleagues are working on a project called Mental Health Detector. And why did I propose this project? Because it's linked to my career path. In fact, the field I worked in before was health. I've had and tried to find a future job in the health sector too. So I think it could be interesting, as part of a portfolio or just to get experience of an additional project in the health field. What's more, I'm personally interested in Mental Health. The idea is that, in the end, we'll have a model that predicts signals of depression using textual posts in forums like Reddit. We can use it to analyse posts in chats and emails and take preventive action if necessary.
What would you say to someone considering training at the School of Data?
I'd say go for it. Maybe, at the beginning, try to understand your needs because there are several training courses at Artefact. There are Data Engineer, Data Analyst and Data Scientist courses, which are all different. Then I learnt that Artefact is now offering a new path with artificial intelligence (AI & No-Code)which can also be interesting. It's important at the beginning to understand the goal. And then you go for it!
